SUSTAINABLE FLOWER FARM, FLORISTRY + PLANTING DESIGN
welcome to kokutan
Based in the South Hams, Kokutan grow and sell seasonal flowers on a small scale and design gardens for the environmentally conscious. The health of the soil always comes first and sustainability has been rooted in their design, development and operations from the beginning. Seasonality and a knowledge of what grows well in the Dartington soil inspires the carefully curated choice of flowers - these are then picked to order by hand.
ABOUT THE FLOWER FARM
The flower farm sits on a 1.5 acre site that was previously a garden nursery and has been in the Woolvett family for 35 years. Kokutan means ‘burnt wood’ in Japanese and as well as inspiring the aesthetic of the family home, Japanese design also influences the principles used in Steph growing, floristry and planting design. A use of natural materials is paired with a love of the simple and delicate, whilst embracing the natural cycle of growth and decay. The overall aim is for the business to have a positive impact on the environment and to provide a carbon light alternative to the international cut flower industry.
